Happy almost-Friday! π Here's a little vineyard dog motivation to get you through the rest of this week. One of the many joys of visiting our local growers during #harvest is seeing these pups weave through the rows of vines and start off a busy morning strong. From seasoned coyote-watchers to mischievous floofers, we had so much fun meeting these furry family members!
Beauty shots of grape sorting are a must during #harvest! πβ Considered one of the first steps to high quality wine, grape sorting involves removing any leaves, stems, damaged berries and other unwanted material from freshly picked grapes. This meticulous process ensures that only healthy and ripe fruit arrive for vinification β which results in better and tastier wine! π·: Zinfandel from our Four Clones Vineyard (DCV2), located right in front of our family winery
Early this morning, we were at the Zinfandel vineyard of one of our local growers: Michael Forchini, joined by his ever-charming, 10-year-old German Shepherd, Harley. The #Harvest workers were as fast as lightning β bringing in a whopping eight tons picked entirely by hand!
#Harvest continues as we work closely with our small, local growers on timing our picks for the season! Last night, after the sun set and the temperatures cooled, the team picked 12 tons of Sauvignon Blanc at Herrick Vineyards. π Picking grapes at night has a multitude of benefits β from more stable sugar levels and better control over fermentation, to energy saved that would otherwise be used to cool the grapes. And last but not least: there's no blistering sun over you when picking!
Happy 84th #birthday to our founder, Dave Stare π Thank you for being our resident pioneer and a total joy (and hoot!) around the winery. Cheers! π·
Early this morning, we picked Zinfandel at Vogensen Ranch for our Petite Zin RosΓ© β one of the first red picks this #harvest! Rising more than 800 feet off the valley floor, Vogensen Ranch is located on the back of Bradford Mountain and is one of the more extreme growing sites in all of Dry Creek Valley. Special thanks to the team at @bevillvineyardmanagement, who trekked these steeply sloped hills in the cool fog!
Last week, our family winery raised a toast to the official start of our 52nd #Harvest! We welcomed in the season with Sauvignon Blanc grapes, beloved variety and star of our pioneer winemaking journey in the Dry Creek Valley since 1972. We're looking forward to seeing the literal fruits of our labor this year β stay tuned for more updates about harvest. Cheers! π₯
Last month, we wrapped our first-ever Dry Creek Vineyard Bocce League and celebrated with a nail-biter of a final tournament! Our congratulations go out to the winning team, A$AP Bocce, who brought their A-game every Monday. π It was a joy to watch these teams face off and share in the laughs and @loandbeholdhealdsburg meals with their loyal spectators. Until next season!
