November 2006

It’s hard to believe that November is here. The color of the leaves has changed on the vines adding depth and richness to the Dry Creek Valley. The temps are warm, but there’s a sense that winter’s chill is just around the corner. The last of the grapes have finally come in – most of it being Cabernet Sauvignon, which is traditionally the last to ripen. Initial reports from our winemaking team indicate that this vintage is looking really good, even with the rain we received in late September. Look for an in-depth report on the 2006 harvest in a future email.

Please read on for more and if you wish to not receive future emails from us you may unsubscribe at the bottom of this email (although, we sincerely hope that’s not the case!).

"Each year, The Red Cat restaurant in New York City prepares a traditional Thanksgiving meal.  And Raoul Segerra, wine director, meets the challenge of pairing wines to the eclectic flavors of the holiday table.  His rule:  Match to the meal's centerpiece, and everything else will follow.  'You need a fresh, juicy wine to pair with white-meat turkey, which can be dry,' he says."

"Segerra likes Dry Creek Vineyard Heritage Zinfandel, 2004, a full bodied, cherry- and plum-tinged Sonoma County, California, red that offers smoother tannins and more moderate alcohol than many other Zins."

Sonoma County

The bouquet of this rich, balanced wine shows ripe black cherry and black currant with hints of vanilla and black pepper. On the palate, elegant flavors of ripe black cherry, currant and creamy spice are complemented with hints of dark chocolate. Balance is key to this wine as the flavors are well integrated without being overpowering.
