March 2006

Spring is officially on hold in the Dry Creek Valley. Cold weather and plenty of rain arrived in early March with vengeance. This caused most vineyards to stay dormant in their winter slumber. Our winemaking staff expects that bud break could happen within a week or two – only time (and the weather) will tell. So, with old man winter still rearing its ugly head, we thought what better way to cheer you up than with some wonderful new information about Dry Creek Vineyard.

The 2004 Fumé Blanc and 2003 Heritage Zinfandel are our flagship wines. Over the years, these varietals
have firmly cemented Dry Creek's reputation for making balanced, food friendly wines.

2004 Fumé Blanc

The 2004 Fumé Blanc is a perfect choice as an every day white wine. Its versatility allows this wine to be paired with a variety of foods including seafood, chicken and hearty soups. One of our favorite pairings is Chef Kevin McKenzie’s Potato and Leek Soup (click "Featured Recipes" at top).

2003 Heritage Zinfandel
Sonoma County

If the Fumé Blanc is the perfect everyday white wine, then the 2003 Heritage Zinfandel is the perfect everyday red! Rich Zinfandel flavors of blackberry, currant and peppery spice allow this wine to go with almost anything, from a thick juicy burger to barbecued baby back ribs. Great with Wild Mushroom Bisque (click Featured Recipes at top).

Did you know that Dry Creek Vineyard, established in 1972, was the first new winery in the Dry Creek Valley since Prohibition?  Today, there are more than 52 operating wineries in the valley.  When founder David Stare purchased the future home of Dry Creek Vineyard, there was an old run down prune orchard in disarray. Dave’s vision to plant Sauvignon Blanc led to a revolution in Sonoma County winemaking.  Thank goodness Dave had a vision and followed his instincts!  Let’s raise a glass of Fumé to Dave!
